ChimMaya
A defunct latino-owned gallery in Los Angeles, California
Overview: Crafting a successful design aimed at advertising the final art show at the closing gallery.
ChimMaya, a now-defunct art gallery, hosted a variety of artists over the decades of them being opened. With the owners getting older they had to decided to officially retire as of the winter of 2019. With this, They decided to have one last event to highlight their history and the many artists who have entered their doors. I myself was tasked to design a poster for them. While it unfortunately was unable to be used, I am extremely proud of what was made.
Poster Design
After multiple iterations made, this design was brighter than the others. It had art from nearly every artist present, it had a large image that reflected the ChimMaya logo, as well as had all the information needed for the event. The focus on the artists and the history of the gallery was a large focus of this event and I wanted to highlight that.
Beta Designs
Before I was able to create the design above, I created multiple beta designs that was shown to the interested parties for decision. As it can be seen, two of these designs would be mashed together to create the final design. Each bring attention to the highlighted painting and/or the logo ChimMaya is known for. I tried to include the names of all of the artists present on the rightmost painting, but every way I tried would cause for readability issues. Regardless, I think the correct decision of direction was made.
